Long waddle to local patch (normally I take the bike to the local patch for a shorter waddle there). The wild teasel is blooming so today was about (bumble)bees. Saw 6 different species. Also saw 5 different butterfly species.

Today's #MothOfTheDay is a common summer visitor to the moth box.

There are a number of similar "yellow underwings" but this is the tidiest looking. Medium-sized, about 3cm long. Underwing is bright golden yellow with black border (not shown here!)

Overhead shot of 3cm long moth on a finger. It is twice as long as it is wide, so almost oblong, but with a pointy head. Its head is tiny with two pinhead black eyes either side and two wiry antennae pointing left and right. It is a very light brown, almost yellow-brown colour with some minor variation in darker and lighter areas, but all similar. It looks a bit like a veneer of light ash or oak. Each wing has two stigmata, one rectangular about one reniform. It has a mildly furry pentagonal top of and behind the head area but before wings start properly.

Y’all? Please recognize the beautiful moments in your life. Now more than ever it’s important to take care of ourselves, practice gratitude, breathe.

Last night I started watering & a bunch of huge #dragonflies came & played in the mist. While the sky was turning colors. And I saw an #AmericanRobin #Flicker #hummingbird #butterflies and people walking the cutest dogs.
It was a mindblowing moment 🙂

Glad I left my phone inside. Allowed me to experience the moment.

Ein Schmetterling sitzt auf einem grünen Blatt. Der Betrachter sieht seine fast vollständig aufgeklappten Flügel von schräg hinten und oben.
Die Grundfarbe der Flügel ist außen schwarz und geht nach innen zu langsam in ein dunkles grau-braun über. Über alle vier Flügel erstreckt sich ein weißes Band, das sich bei ausgebreiteten Flügeln zu zwei Viertelkreises zusammenfügt. Auf den hinteren Flügeln ist das Band in mehrere, von außen nach innen schmaler werdende Teilbänder unterteilt.
Auf den Vorderflügeln ist jeweils ein schwarzer Augenfleck angeordnet, der von einer grau-braunen und einer schwarzen Linie eingefaßt wird. Innerhalb des Augenflecks befinden sich drei weiße Tupfen, die wie Lichtreflexionen wirken.

The bramble bushes growing in our laurel hedge were the centre of attention for the butterflies this morning - these small skippers were quite happily hunting for nectar on the bramble flowers. I hadn't realized how small they really were until I zoomed in and could see that they barely covered the width of a bramble flower petal.

I feel like I’ve had to explain the importance of nettles for caterpillars a lot lately.

If you want butterflies you need to leave some nettles to grow.

More professionally known as Elephant Hawkmoths, one of our most vibrantly coloured moths, albeit one of the smaller hawkmoths. With its bright colour and fuzzy felt appearance, it resembles a character from the Muppets
