As I am working my way (slowly) through the Harvard Classics, a thought occured to me. It is mostly philosphy and literature; which is fine, but is there a "science" version of Harvard Classics or some other science focused anthology?
Bonus question! If you could create your own science anthology, what would you include in it? Bonus points if it is in the public domain!

I keep forgetting to post that I run a small bookstore, The Scribbling Lion, focused on small press and self published titles, leaning heavily into LGBTQ+ with a side of pagan. I rotate stock out frequently, and I take special orders for any title, big or small press, and I'm happy to help you search out the right book for a project you're working on!
Caveat: I am at a convention this weekend in North Carolina, so stock availability is not correct until probably Tuesday.
Just finished listening to Iron Council by China Mieville
This might be one of the best books featuring a train.

Janet Rudolph reported that author Martin Cruz Smith, author of the Arkady Renko series, passed away.
I took this photo of him when he was signing books at Hotel La Fonda in Santa Fe during the Left Coast Crime conference.
I was a big fan of his work, particularly his ability to write evocative descriptions.

"...a daft and daffy tapestry of quantum physics, dimensional theories, ridiculous punwork, pulp sci-fi adventure tropes, Philip K. Dickensian plot devices, Kurt Vonneugtiann asides, sublime silliness, and more Maximilian Tundras than you could ever hope to shake a stick at ... great brain-squeezing fun. –Corey Redekop, author of Husk

Jean-Michel Basquiat is often associated with the New York art scene of the 1980s, but between November 1982 and May 1984, he was wildly prolific on the other side of the country. A new book illuminates this lesser-known period of the artist's life in Los Angeles.

📚 **The Association of University Presses: ‘Essential Reading’ on Immigration**
"_The movement of people from one place of residence to another is as old as humankind itself. So how and why does human migration collide with geopolitics periodically, resulting in the demonization of human beings who have chosen to migrate or been forced to flee?_"

Why on earth do publishers do this? It drives me nuts!
Why not just pick a book size and keep it consistent for the whole series?

I have lot of books and soon to create a good personal library in my house. But... I still don't have an Ex Libris stamp, that's kinda hard to create one for me.
Should I try with AI? I meant... would be cool to use one from AI?

I miss being able to read books with ease. It now feels like a battle between a book and a phone, and I keep side eyeing the damn thing like an addict 🫠
I used to read 100 books a year. Now it'll be a lucky thing to read even 20.
This is a series of stories based on a famous real-life judge in China during the Song dynasty. It was written centuries ago, and one of the defining memories of my childhood is my dad giving me these very books to read. It has pictures but also Chinese and English writing. Rereading them and am amused by the fact that as a kid, I was reading about tortures, poisonings and how every story's "happy" ending ends with a decapitation of a bad guy. We Chinese kids have quite a morbid and grim diet for bedtime stories, looks like 😅
In that sense, I think we have something in common with the Germans 🤣
Can anyone recommend an ethical online secondhand bookstore? Hard to navigate who is owned by Nazis these days.
