@aral The UN in theory sounds great, but in practice it so often disappoints and disgusts.

Especially the joke that is the UNSC where the majority of complaints are against the countries that can each single-handedly veto.

@xinit In my experience of it, it’s hugely neoliberal. I was shocked how much so while at the event in Rome I was invited to speak at where ngi was revealed. The guy from the UN sounded like Eric Schmidt. He literally said some problems were just too complicated for governments to solve and that we should just let Silicon Valley tech companies handle them. I told him who he sounded like to me after his talk. He thanked me. Apparently I’d compared him to his personal hero.
