I got an #email from Higher Ground Labs and the National #Democratic Training Committee (#NDTC) inviting me to sign up for #training to use #ai to help my #team.
Quoting from the email: "Here at Higher Ground Labs, we’ve been focused deeply on the emerging use cases, needs, gaps, and opportunities presented by the introduction of generative AI in politics. Generative AI is still new, yet has the potential to help your team run smoother, faster, and more efficiently today. "
I. Just. Can't.
My reply: "As someone who has worked in the tech industry, and as someone seeking climate justice, I cannot ethically use AI as part of my outreach to voters, or for any other purpose.
"Fundamentally,AI is an amped up version of writing a text by choosing the middle word in the suggestion bar. It's not intelligent in the way we use the word to describe people.
"And, to generate these answers, AI uses vastly more computing time (and thus, electricity) than a search query. You can observe this yourself by noting the difference in time between asking regular search for something and asking AI for the same thing.
"We're already cooking the planet; no need to turn up the heat."
