Swedish pizzerias offer La Bussola, a ham & shrimp pizza. #TIL that the word means "compass" and that the dish was named by Swedish-Italian restaurateur Giuseppe Sperandio (1929-1996).
Sperandio was instrumental in introducing pizza to Sweden. In Swedish travel writing from the late 50s, "pizza" is still treated as an unfamiliar term that must be defined for the reader. Today most pizzerias in Sweden are kept by non-Italians.
