Can anyone recommend a good fantasy book (series preferably). Specifically I'm looking for good world building that is not just a retread of tolkien-esque tropes but not just medieval with magic either. Not romance, and I've already read most of Brandon Sanderson's stuff #books #fantasybooks

It's been a while since I read it, but Fifth Season had an amazing world and was leagues away from Tolkien-esque.
I was also listening to a podcast recently and it reminded me how great Tamora Pierce's Lioness and Protector series are. They may be a bit too YA or medieval with magic for what you're asking for though.
