#WIPWednesday My first sock! (I don't consider my loom-knit slipper-socks to count as proper socks.) I'm making things easier on myself by doing a tube-sock (spiral ribbing, with no heel). Not because I'm afraid of doing heels, but my slipper-socks showed me that I lack experience in sizing (they were too big) so I thought I'd get a better feel for things by making a sock that is less worry about fitting. Of course, I wouldn't be me if I hadn't made multiple attempts along the way; this time
Another interesting note with this sock is that I've been finding the DPN usage more difficult, because this pattern has ribbing rather than stockinette, and doing the purls - especially when the purl is the first stitch on a needle - has been less than smooth sailing. I was even considering buying a set of Flexi-Flips to see if that would make things easier, but before I did that, I switched from using four DPNs to hold the stitches, to three. Amazing! It was so much easier! Because the arrangement was more stable, the needles weren't flying around everywhere and getting in my way.
Why is four needles the "standard" way of doing it?

@kerravonsen @knitting I think it used to be standard to have dpn sets with only 4 needles. I inherited my grandma's knitting supplies and all her sets are only 4 needles. So it changed sometime in her lifetime. Interesting!
