A Colour Wildlife Photo In Landscape Format. In The Foreground And Middle Ground Is A Scene Of Rocks And Snow. Standing Closest, Side On To The Camera And Facing To The Right, Is An Adult Gentoo Penguin Looking Down At The Pebbles Below Its Feet. The Penguin Has A Black Back, Head And Upper Wings. The Lower Surfaces Are White As Well As A White Band Running From One Eye Across The Top Of The Head And Then To The Other Eye, It Has An Orange Beak. A Very Short Distance Beyond Are Two Juvenile Gentoo Penguins. One Is Curled Up Asleep, The Other Is Leaning Upwards, Its Beak Wide Open As If Yawning. Immediately Behind Is A Further Adult Gentoo Facing Towards The Young Birds And The Camera: With Its Wings Slightly Outstretched. These Three Penguins Are On A Smooth And Rounded Rock A Little Over A Metre Across. It Has A Generous Deposit Of Penguin Poo On The Left Side. Behind And Blurred Out Of Focus Is A Scene Of Snow And A Few Rocks. One Thing That Makes This Photo Unusual Is How Clean All The Penguins Are, Especially The Younger Unfledged Birds.
The Location Is Booth Island On The West Side Of The Antarctic Peninsula (2024)
