The credit rating of the United States has been downgraded for the first time since 1917.
The Moody's downgrade to Aa1 removes the U.S. government's last remaining triple-A credit rating, diminishing its status as the world's highest-quality sovereign borrower. This makes loans more expensive for the US government and American citizens in the form of higher interest rates.
