Side on shot of a butterfly on purple-pink knapweed. The butterfly is feeding and has its wings upright and part closed. It is a chequerboard of black and white with a row of white squares containing a black ring within each.

A peacock butterfly on the ground. It faces left and has its wings flat open showing both fore and hind wings. It is bright scarlet red with a large blue and pale orange eye in each wing corner, with a black bullseye centre

A comma butterfly on the ground, It has its wings open. It is tiger orange and black with orange background and black splodges. Its leading wing edge is flat, but its outer edges are heavily scalloped. It has two antennae which stick in the air.

Two Ringlet butterflies having ... erm ... well... yes... you get my drift. They are joined at the you-know-whats but face in opposite directions. I'm sure one has a smile on its face. The side on wings are pale plain brown with 6 cream rings with black ring inside and a cream bullseye. Three rings are in a vertical row near the bottom left corner of the wing. The other three in a similar vertical row, but above and slightly set towards the centre rather than the wing edge.
