Hi #mastoadmin - anyone willing to work with our company on proposing a PR to #mastodon to add #PhotoDNA scanning feature for inbound messages to help prevent the scourge of #csam? We're not developers, but might be able to help fund/promote a type of hook/API call or maybe even a PhotoDNA account for smaller instances to use that helps auto report to #ncmec ... reach out if interested.

Give us a boost for reach?
@derek Hi Derek!
Before sending any PR, we need to do design work on the Mastodon side for this kind of feature. I recently wrote an article about my (personal) vision for this: https://renchap.com/blog/post/evolving_mastodon_trust_and_safety/
You probably also want to reach out to https://about.iftas.org / @jaz as they started working on the matter.
@renchap @derek @jaz This is a great read and I like the idea of "federating out" even components of mastodon. Do you think that it'd be a "faster time to market" to bake this model into the product or to develop a simple csam scanner feature directly into mastodon requiring only a PhotoDNA API key during setup?
@derek @renchap there's room for a thousand flowers to bloom. IFTAS is exploring solutions that can help all AP providers, not just Mastodon, so for us it will either be promoting some optional addition to various apps that can be turned on; working with the major hosts to see what can be done at the storage level; and building an API for anyone to use. We are exploring Safer from Thorn for the most part, but also looking at PhotoDNA. Conversations are spooling up here: https://chat.iftas.org/#/room/#space:matrix.iftas.org
